11/30
Five pieces of news to convey today:
First, TWL resumes on Tuesday. TDB is slated
to play Das, and all the predictions are against us save the one
from =SFR=, thanks guys and good luck yourselves.
Second, We have a scrim next Thursday versus
TnA on Battle of the Bulge. Looks like it's going to be a good test
of our ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome, especially on Axis.
See you guys then.
Third, Xiun has apparently elected to leave
TDB and hasn't said why. GG's Xiun.
Fourth, we're still recruiting. All you have
to do is either catch our pub open and provide us with some email
info, or email us to start the process guys.
Finally, the drive to make BF1942 a CPL game
has begun in earnest without either adequate game support or maps
for it. A widely publicized poll has appeared in which BF1942 is
prominently featured. I'm sure those of us who played CS remember
exactly what happened when it became a pay-for-play game, and we
can only hope the same thing doesn't happen here. I for one have
nothing against the CPL making money, but when an entire community
throws out the old to pursue profit in the new, everyone suffers
for it. If you want to vote in the poll, you will have no problems
finding links to it.

Happy Thanksgiving
Well it's that time of year again, and I thought I'd take a few minutes and
convey a few things we probably ought to be thankful for this Holiday Season.
I'm thankful I live in a country
where I enjoy freedom of speech and religion (for the most part).
I'm thankful that I have time to play BF1942 under protection of the best military
in the world,
instead of doing it for real with no respawn opportunity.
I'm thankful I have a roof over my head and PC to play while there.
I'm thankful that most of the threats to my country and my safety are at arm's
length,
and that there has been no repeat of 9/11/01.
I'm thankful that I have food to eat and family to enjoy it with.
I'm thankful that I have a solid team who's potential is limited only by their
own desire,
and a solid league to play in.
And finally I'm thankful they have time to do the same.
I'm sure many of us could add to that list,
but there's my sorry attempt. We hope you have a Happy Holiday season,
from us at The Devil's Brigade to you where ever you are.
11/25
TDB took on BBF in an unranked scrim on Guadalcanal. Apparently there was some
confusion on BBF's side regarding game time, because they were trying to
join the server early. When game time came around and BBF was no where
to be seen, we found some of their members on a pub, and put together what
there was (in this case they were short so we loaned them some guys). We
don't really consider this a scrim since BBF wasn't adequately represented
due to the pre-match confusion regarding time. GG BBF, GL in TWL, and we're
looking forward to a scrim when you guys are at full strength.

Next Scrim Announced
Yep, another Guadalcanal scrim hoooray (sarcasm)! TDB is going to take on BBF
Tuesday, 11/25 at 9pm EST, so put down those drumsticks and grab yer mice ladies
we got a game!
For The Top Gun Crew...
Well if you're looking for somewhere to hone your wild flying skills, look
no further! A 2on2 competition is being run by Squadgames, and if you want
to participate, see the thread up on the TWL board here:

Some pretty good teams there, you guys ought
to jump on that.
Server Control Options
Well as time passes and BBO gets more and more out of date and/or useless,
people are looking for alternative control means. While we all know about
CTFE Kicker Pro, a new one has emerged that is at least interesting, as
it's voice activated. If you want to check it out, go here:

I gather it's a promotion, so how good or long
it lasts is beyond me. Also, the TWL board mentions an open source
application for Linux only that is about ready for prime time, but
we have a Windows server ;).

Got Guadal?
So we do yet another scrim (this one planned) on our favorite green Pacific
hell versus =SFR=. This was a good play opportunity for a few of our up and
coming members and we made the most of it. Round 1 was in doubt a while, as
the team wasn't really gelling like they could have been and a couple of tweaks
to the strat wasn't helping things a whole lot. However late in the round we
secured the requisite three points and came back out of a pretty deep hole
to sink =SFR='s hopes. Round 2 turned into a whole different ballgame, as I
ran into connection problems as did another member, and as a result at one
point we were only fielding 6 guys and our alternates were AFK DOH! Ah well,
some days ya get the Twinke and some days the Hostess truck runs ya over heh.
Final: 1-1 tie, GG =SFR=.

TWL Announces Next Match
Well rather than building the drama to a fever pitch by putting us both versus
the teams we hadn't played yet, TWL has named our next opponent: Das! Yep,
guess this is what happens when you do well in pre-season ;). Looks like
it's going to be an interesting match, and at least I can say we got a
lot of practice in for it. Due to the Turkey Day holiday, this match takes
place December 2nd, so see you then!

Although I posted this up in IRC on Veteran's
Day, I didn't make mention of it in the last news update, so here it
is: have a happy and safe Veteran's Day for those who can't:

TDBvs-=SoD=- Results
Well we knew -=SoD=- was being awfully quiet when none of our match coms were
answered, and our concerns were justified when match night came about and
-=SoD=- was no where to be seen. After waiting the prescribed amount of
time, we filed for the win. GG -=SoD=-, hope you come back soon. No Caen
for us 8(.
TDBvs|Fz| Scrim
Quite by chance, Forgotten Outlawz came in looking for a scrim earlier that
evening and was still about, so we went to Guadalcanal. Both rounds took
place on our server, with |Fz| going Allies. The round was pretty lopsided
and |Fz| wasn't able to effectively counter our strategy, resulting in
a pretty clear TDB win round 1. Round 2, we went Allies, and it was very
nearly a whole different ballgame. |Fz| got it's proverbial stuff together
and put on a fine rush that had a lot of points changing hands for about
15 minutes, then we were able to get the situation under control and again
end the round positively in our favor. Score: TDB 2, |Fz| 0, GG |Fz| (and
might I suggest reconsidering the use of certain assets you guys didn't
in our scrim?), looking forward to a rematch down the road somewhere.

Next TWL Opponent Named, Week Ahead
TDB is going to be facing off against -=SoD=- in our next match on Caen. This
is going to be our last Pre-Season match, and TDB is coming off two wins going
into it. Regardless, this looks like it's going to be a good infantry battle.
Of course, how our opponents intend to fight us with just one guy on their
roster I'm not sure, but...maybe he's Superman ;)?
Also on tap this week, expect some pilot training
and a scrim on Guadalcanal. Although our strategy isn't too bad,
we have tweaked it a bit and need to see how it's going to perform.
News on scrim opponent TBA. Hopefully also we'll see the debut of
the new "BFSecure" anti-cheat program (formerly known as
the BF Cheat Police). Recruiting continues, and see you guys in practice.

TDBvsSCE Scrim Results
The Devil's Brigade faced off against SCE Wednesday night on Battle of the
Bulge and El Alamein. After discussing starting rules, SCE determined they
wanted 100% tickets and a 25 minute timer per round, which we agreed to since
we were doing two maps and they were playing exclusively on our box. On Bulge
(our map of choice), the game
started off strong for TDB and stayed that way the entire Axis round allowing
us to win it 35-0. The Allied round continued the trend, with the brief scare
being when a certain water foul (who will remain nameless) elected to leave
the M10 by the North Bridge with SCE's Tiger and Wespe pounding it. Luckily
some good armor work recovered the situation, allowing us to end the round
92-0 TDB. We then went on to El Alamein, SCE's map of choice where we knew
their air was good from previous play. Round 1 (TDB as Allies) they were able
to ground our air force for a while, and get the NP with a good combination
of air and armor, but that was all. TDB still took the round, 55-0. Round 2
TDB went Axis, and it was our turn to ground their air force. The match was
for all intents over, but to their credit SCE kept coming at us and kept contesting
points. Round 2 ended 83-0 TDB. We'd like to extend a good game to SCE, and
hope to play them again sometime.

Pre match the usual good natured
TK fest ensued while we waited for everyone to connect.
Gotcha Smarts ;).

Bad time for a connection problem?
There's a SCE Panzer 5 yards away on my left.
Luckily, I was saved by a server crash. Whew.

MVP System
A better system of determining MVPs is in the works guys. Tawm and I are working
on the situation and will hopefully have something for you pretty soon here.
Two Notes For The Members
The first one regards IRC idling. As some
of you know, we had to change key on the private channel recently.
Well what you might not know is that we got a bit of a suprise the
night of the =HPSF= match when several players who were apparently
only idling in the private channel had to email us frantically before
the =HPSF= match trying to get the key because they didn't remember
where the #clan_brigade public channel was. Guys you need to idle in
both channels when you join so that when this happens, these little
situations don't arise ;).
The second note has to do with staying informed.
We've been posting scrimmage and match information up to a week in
advance of a game in the topic of the private channel, yet we've
had several members either forgetting about them or just not knowing
about them. If the topic isn't there when you get in, type !topic
and you will get it to display. Also, you can check the Event Schedule
of this very page for up to date scrimmage and match information
that Tawm works hard to keep up to date. There is no reason not to
know about a game ahead of time, and if you're still not sure, you
can always come on voice and ask. Let's be more careful about that
in the future guys, thanks.
TDBvs=HPSF= Results
I'm pleased to announce our first victory in the TWL 8vs8 League competition.
TDB faced off with =High Plains Strike Force= on the TWL version of KOH
on Tuesday. Despite their predictions of easy victory, and psych tactics
of showing up in our base and shooting us pre match, it was not to be as
=HPSF= ended up playing a member short and claiming another one was impaired
although he seemed to be connected to the server and just away from his
PC for about 3/4 of round 1 (after which he disconnected). TDB was taking
no chances however, establishing dominance on the Hill early, using a combination
of firepower and manuver to gain ground fast and hit them where they weren't
expecting. TDB went 108-0 win round 1. Round 2, =HPSF= elected to go ahead
and stay on our box as the pings were even, and went at it again, this
time with =HPSF= having 7 present members. Seeing that our strategy was
good "as is" we stuck with it. =HPSF= came out a bit stronger
this round, but the closest they came to an advantage was a 5 minute strech
in which we had overextended ourselves allowing them the opportunity to
turn the tables on us briefly. Our players were savvy though and regained
the lost points fast, eventually ending round 2 with us camping =HPSF=
in their base. Good game =HPSF=, I'm sure we'll play again. Final score
2-0 TDB.

The incredible sinking jeep.

I don't know what this =HPSF=
player was doing, but it felt good so I gave him 5 bucks for it afterward.
What a way to start a match!

Psych! Not.

Wait a sec, isn't he supposed to be on foot??!!?? Bah.

After sneaking a Tiger tank to

One wonders if Rap might have been more helpful shooting some bad guys instead
of this picture ;).

As The Clans Turn...
TDB wants to offer it's condolences to clans =|WAR|= and goos on their recent
disbandments. These two very well known clans will be missed, but as long as
their members wish to keep playing, we presume they will stregnthen other clans
or go on to found new clans. A little turnover can be a good thing and is a
sign of a healthy community ;).
TWL 8vs8 League Kicks Off!
Woooo league play! I'm happy to announce things are getting underway. TDB has
been scheduled for it's first Pre-Season match on KOH against =HPSF=. Match
will be Tuesday, 11/11/03 9:30pm EST/6:30pm PST, be ready to rock! As a
side note, TWL is looking for a few more 12vs12 and 8vs8 clans. If you're
interested in joining this league you should head to their page at http://www.teamwarfare.com
and sign your squad up. See you in the servers!
TDB vs SCE Scrim
Just a reminder, TDB is scheduled to play Shadow Company Elite in a scrim this
Wednesday, 11/12 at 10:00pm EST. Maps are going to be Bulge and El Al,
so have your wrenches handy ;).
A Farewell to Trencher
Barely two weeks after making TDB, Trencher has been elected clan leader of
his Planetside clan. Needless to say the job is a big one, and the work
required to bring them back to their former level is far too much to allow
effective BF1942 practice, so we have to wish poor Trencher an unhappy
farewell. Good luck with your team, and you're welcome back anytime Trencher.
Give 'em hell in Planetside!

TDB vs =NCG= Scrim Results
We had a very good scrim versus =NCG= on KOH_TWL and Tobruk. This was our first
scrims on both maps, and we went in knowing =NCG= was a veteran clan, and planned
appropriately. TDB was able to sweep KOH 2-0, but ran into some problems on
Tobruk as =NCG='s better developed strategy caused us some problems. Also,
due to the fact that it was getting late when we started on Tobruk, it should
be understood that we went from 150% tickets with no time limit setup to a
100% tickets 20 minute time limit set of rules, and it shouldn't reflect negatively
on =NCG= that they weren't used to those rules and the little recovery time
they allow (otherwise this map might have gone their way). =NCG= took the first
round, and we took the second, with some great tank action by all. Afterward,
good games were exchanged, and things were very cordial. We look forward to
playing =NCG= again at a later date, and with a better Tobruk Allied strat
;). Tobruk Final: 1-1. Overall map results 3-1 TDB, great game =NCG=. 3 out
of 4 Screens below, MVP's named when we can get that last screen from round
1 KOH.

BF1942 Cheat Police
Wooo anti cheats! I'm happy to announce that a community developed anti-cheat
is on the way and close to being deployed. Called the BF1942 Cheat Police,
it incorporates a series of memory scanners and screen shot utilities. Their
page is located here. and if you'd
like to know more, you might want to check out this interview by BF42.com located here (source
for the below .gif by the way). According to various news sources, we could
see deployment of this tool as soon as this week if all goes well. Now this
isn't the only anti cheat in development, there are about 3-4 others, including
a version of UA's Cheating Death which many of you may remember from HLCS.
Regardless of which is the "most effective" tool, it's great to know
that this community cares enough about this game to to pick up where EA/Dice
isn't.

Kcg Server Contest
Clan Kansas City Gamers is running a server contest. Details can be found here:
http://teamwarfare.com/forums/showthread.asp?forumid=27&threadid=91103.
If you're going to stat whore, stat whore for prizes 8P. It's always good
to see a clan contribute to everyone's gaming experience and the community
as a whole by running events like this, we hope to see more like them in
the future.
We love the level of community involvement in
this game and hope it stays strong for a long time to come.

TDB Admitted To TWL 8vs8 League!
I'm pleased to announce that today I received a letter of acceptance from TWL
for the 8vs8 Conquest League. The Devil's Brigade has been been admitted to
the National Conference, Axis Division. Needless to say things are about to
get busy. We're currently working on mapping out a schedule of matches and
scrims for the League play, so I'm sorry to announce that you guys might actually
have to sweat a little in the near future as we cover some of the maps we haven't
been in more detail ;). Expect scrims versus the best teams we can get, so
I hope you boys want your money's worth out of BF1942 WOOO!
TWL 8vs8 League Schedule Posted
Through Holiday Season
We went ahead and updated the event
schedule page with a list of the days each map is played. We're
going to shoot for at least one scrim prior to each match for play
testing and polishing, and the first two scrims are already setup.
We'll be scrimmaging =NCG= and SCE for KOH_TWL and Bulge respectively
(see event page or IRC for dates/times), as well as the maps of their
choice. Make sure you check this page at least once an evening, as
details will change. Like the man said, "the more you sweat
in training, the less you bleed in war" so lets start sweating.
Quick Note On Pubbing
Folks you are only as good as the people you
practice against, and if we want to be contenders in this game we
must build that sweat equity even in our off days. The best way to
do that is to play against the best, so I want everyone to make sure
they are pubbing on the best possible servers to help refine their
skills here. If you need a list of good servers to play, just ask
and ye shall receive. See you at practice.
