June 2005 06-30-05 New Arrivals Welcome aboard Madman_TDB and Stinky-Pickle_TDB to the Battlefield:1942 Division. Both are eager as hell to get started and welcome additions to TDB. Welcome them aboard as only you can Devils ;). BF2 Division Roster Later today, we're hoping to have up a BF:2 Division provisional roster. Though plans and things are going to be firmed up in the BF2 meeting on 7/5, there's no reason not to get a jump on the situation. Be looking for it later today. Congratulations Marine_TDB! We at The Devil's Brigade would like to salute our comrade Marine_TDB for his recent college graduation and Salutatorian status. WOOO MARINE_TDB! BFRadio Gets Devilish New Talent Another little shout out we'd like to do is to Twisted-Sista_TDB (formerly Lil_EvilOne_TDB) on her new position as a DJ at BFRadio.com! We're sure you'll enjoy her steaming up the airwaves as she has our channels, so beware out there, 'cause Sista's on the air! DD Match Results Posted Below Sorry for the delay in posting them, but the DD match results are now posted below. 06-28-05 July 4th Holiday As you are aware, this weekend is the July 4th holiday on which we celebrate Independence Day (US). Due to this holiday, there will be no BF42 practice Sunday, and no BF42 scrim Monday so that our members can enjoy themselves and remember how great a country it is we live in. BF2 Division will still get together on the 5th. BF42 Division will resume on Wednesday the 7th. BF2 Division Update After talking with the team, we've elected to hold a meeting/practice on 7/5 at 9:30pm EST/6:30pm PST to discuss the new division and it's structure. Interested members should do their best to make that meeting. Also, the roster is starting to shape up rather nicely. Currently, the following are either extremely interested or signed up already for BF2 with TDB:
We're also talking to:
as well as two others. Things are shaping up nicely ;). However we are still recruiting. See below, our contact page for details! 06-27-05 Scrimmage Update As you know, most Mondays we've been doing scrims with our scrim partner. However due to their having a match tonight and next Monday being the 4th of July, we're going to put off further scrims till July 11th. Recruiting Continues for BF1942 and BF2, all positions. Air and armor preferred.
***NEW XFIRE CONTACT INFO*** evilguardian BF2 Division Update Ok, following a short meeting and straw poll there is sufficient interest in BF2 Division to proceed, therefore...sign ups commence *now*. Better still, some long lost faces maybe back for it as well! We have a server currently running the demo and should shortly have a full fledged private server, presuming we don't go ahead and rent one from our good buddies over at Escaped Turkey (who provide our BF1942 server). We're estimating we have about 7 members, and are already forging ahead with the organization of the division. There will be a separate page for BF2, and a general re-organization of the BF1942 page which we've been preparing for to better reflect the multiple-division layout that The Devil's Brigade has grown into. Temporarily this page will be the BF2 page as well. Members and prospective members need to start getting on IRC so that we can get things organized. BF2 Update This is going to be kind of short. First EA issued a community message which you can see here. Second a new Commander's Guide is out which you can find here. Third, another tweak guide has emerged which you can find here. Fourth, the cheaters are already busy as PB has issued multiple updates in the last week. TWL has announced that we're going to be using PB for right now for anti-cheats. Fifth, a "how to play the game" post here. Finally there's a headset review of the newest stuff that we're going to check out and not post here ;). If of course it's worth our time. TWL Match After Action: TDBvsDD After Action TDB over DD 2-1, GG. Details and screens soon. UPDATE: Apologies on the update but things have been busy. On 22 June 2005 TDB took on and defeated *Deadly-Deciplez* in our first match on Abandoned City. TDB found itself short a player due to a series of last minute hijinks, and DD found itself short two players due to incorrect PBGUID's. Despite this, we decided to go with a 4 on 4 format instead of a 5 on 5 and let one of the players with an incorrect GUID play anyway. Of course this had to change both team's approaches to the map, but it was a good challenge. Round 1, TDB went Axis, initially capturing two points; however good fragging action and teamwork by DD forced us out of two, and despite capturing another point, the round went against us, ending 0-51 DD. Round 2, TDB went Allies, and the game changed. Basically we were able to cap two points and keep a third frequently in contest. This pinned DD somewhat and our teamwork and weapons paid off, allowing TDB to take the round 92-0. Round 3, TDB elected to go Allies again. This round the fight was mainly concentrated in the center area, with the surrounding sections supporting rushes by one team or other. However, about 1/3 of the way into the round it became clear that DD wasn't watching the Church, so Marine_TDB decided to borrow it from them, putting the drain on. EvilOne_TDB took this spot over and successfully held it the rest of the round, putting the game firmly in our pocket as the timer ticked down. Round 3 score: 31-0 TDB.
Naturally DD was unhappy with this but for the most part sportsmanlike, with the exception of one of their players who called EvilOne_TDB a "no talent spamming noob" because she wasted him every time he tried to grab the Church back heh. Pretty minor considering so we let it pass ;). Screens:
New Arrival Welcome aboard Alaska-Steve_TDB, 16 and hailing from Canada (ironic, eh?). Steve's a former member of Rail Riders, and a welcome addition to the team. Welcome him aboard as only you can ;). 17-06-05 Sunday Clan Meeting Before TDB's normal Sunday practice will be a short clan meeting to get opinions on BF:2 and better illustrate our plans for it at this time. Please attend and be on time. Thank you. TWL Match Challenge: TDB vs *Deadly Deciplez* TDB has been challenged to a 5 on 5 Infantry Ladder match by *Deadly Deciplez*. Match is currently scheduled for Wednesday, 22nd June at 10pm EST. Map is Abandoned City, no BFPro. Recruiting
TDB is hiring, and yes, we're hiring for Battlefield 2 as well. We do have a private demo server, as well as a 32 player public BF:42 server. We're looking for a few good members for both the BF:42 and BF:2 divisions, all classes. If you're interested, email us here or hit up the contact page for information on joining today! Member Anniversaries It's important to take stock from time to time and remind ourselves of the contributions of various members (active members only, but the contribution of even our inactive members is notable as well, but not recounted today):
We salute these members for their continuing contributions to The Devil's Brigade. E3 Battlefield 2 Wrap Up Well, you've been waiting for a Battlefield 2 wrap up, so here it is: First, let's back the clock up to the E3 Expo. These links are to the big reviews as have appeared during and since E3. All links are courtesy of PlanetBattlefield.com for convenient posting.
Keep in mind of course that this is the game industry giving reviews that will mostly be positive. Second, let's talk about the demo itself and a few problems that have been experienced.
Third, let's talk about some tweaking and available community info.
10-06-05 BF2 Demo Now Available After much anticipation and delay, the Battlefield: 2 demo is now available. Download links: A spot of bad news. It seems the rumors regarding "XP Only" may be true. System requirements went up here and that's the only OS listed. WTF EA?? UPDATE: Good news, it seems the demo has a note that pops up and says it was "tested for Windows XP". Testing shows that it works fine on Windows2k. 03-06-05 Gamesnet Update Ok, time to get a bit more detailed info regarding Gamesnet and our new "alternate" room. For starters, this room is to be used (again) up till Gamesurge gets it's DDoS situation under control; second although similar to Gamesurge, it's not, and the commands and how things work are different. Here's the critical info:
Schedule Reminder I shouldn't even have to say this but after repeated questions about not knowing about stuff, if you cast your eyes up to the little "Situation Report" bar and the red text under it, you will see an up to date schedule of what's going on. 02-06-05 TDB Has A Scrim Partner All members listen up! TDB has now has an 8vs8 weekly scrim partner. Scrims are going to be Mondays at 10EST. First maps are going to be Bocage, Tobruk, Stali. Make practice on Sunday to go over strats. Hopefully this is going to facilitate our return to 8vs8 BF:42 play while we see how BF2 develops. You've been working toward this for a while Devils, well here's your chance to take your teamwork to the next level. See you there! Gamesurge, BAH! Ok due to the BS DDoS attacks being launched on Gamesurge, we're establishing a second room on a network with a familiar sounding name: Gamesnet! You may recall that Gamesnet was Gamesurge's former name. Well, following some legal issues, they split, leaving Gamesurge the red-headed step child of the IRC circuit but just perfect for us. Sunday we'll go over the "how to's" of connecting to it, etc. In the mean time, if you cannot get on IRC at Gamesurge, go ahead and get on TS and idle there. More soon! New Recruiting Campaign Underway We've started a new BF:42/BF2 recruiting campaign. The Devil's Brigade (a 1942 Conquest team) is recruiting skilled players for both 5vs5 and 8vs8 TWL ladder play. Interested players need to hit us up here. Expect to see our ads and this notice repeated until our requirements are met. Recruiting all fields, with an emphasis on armor and flight. Still Seeking 8vs8 BF:42 Conquest Scrim Partner As previously announced, we're still doing 8vs8 BF:42 until we determine whether or not BF:2 is going to be worth considering a switch for. So if you're looking for a late in the day scrim partner, TDB is interested. Best days for it are Mon, Wed, Sun. If you have 8 guys and want to work your 8vs8 BF:42 conquest practice, let us know here. As a side note, depending on how good a game BF:2 is, we may also be looking at a BF:2 scrim partner...stay tuned. BF2 Demo News PlanetBattlefield ran the following this morning from EA Play Australia:
Here comes 60 tons of trouble...Official EA Screenshot So there it is Devils. Demo date in about 10 days and game ship on the 21st. *IF* EA stays on schedule, we should have a week to evaluate the BF2 demo before the full game hits. Those of you putting off key hardware buys might want to be shopping soon. TDB LAN Party? The Devil's Brigade is again considering the possibility of a late summer LAN party. The only real problem at this time is location, as the age of some of our members may preclude their traveling too far. If you're centrally located to several clan members and think you're up to the challenge of feeding and providing appropriate play facilities for a bunch of hungry Devils (or at least interested in going), sing out loud and and long and we'll start evaluating the possibilities. TSP Mod Update Those of you who had a chance to check out The Sharpest Point mod that we ran on our server for a while might be interested to know that there's an update coming fairly soon that will introduce tanks, and one of the most detailed damage systems we've ever seen. It is also their 1st Anniversary, and they. The official announcement says...
Archives Coming Soon... Unless otherwise stated, © The Devil's Brigade and Tex_TDB, 1997-2005.
