April 2005 29-04-05 IRC Update Ok, those of you on IRC lately
have noticed we've had a few connection problems ;). Most of GameSurge
is having issues as of this writing, so if you can't get on IRC via
your favorite server, try these servers also:
Note the North American servers
are first. Which works seems to be varying day by day (smooth GameSurge
smooth). To enter them quickly go to the status window and type /server
servername. Hopefully this situation will be resolved soon.
PunkBuster Update Tony Ray and the crew at Even Balance have been at it again, issuing their latest update last night. Unfortunately, unlike most updates, this one didn't go as smoothly, so make sure you use the Web Update Utility or do a manual update from the support area. Instructions are posted. TWL Update: Yet Another BFPro Change Hot on the heels of the 5on5 Ladder getting the .71 BFPro update, TWL has decided it's time for another change. They want us to have .81 by 2nd May, so go ahead and grab the damn thing. Changes to be aware of (you Devils will love this...): improved accuracy for Assaults, improved damage for Engineers and Scouts; Engineers can't toss mines. Full post of changes can be found here. Have this for Sunday. BF2 Hype Continues...With A Twist! Planet Battlefield came through with links to three important pieces of information. First, we have a list of recommended PC stats for BF2 found here on EA Games Spain. Three odd things hit us - first this game only requires DX9b, second the CPU requirement seems reasonable if low (1.7g), and third you are going to need a DVD player installed apparently. Luckily those are getting cheaper every day, so hit us up if you need em. Second, Royal Danish Combat Elite posted up the latest "little as EA can get away with telling us" BF2 interview with a few pieces of info as well. Stats are going to be limited to EA only servers (fear of cheating which is rich considering that most of it is client side...do these guys do any freaking research into it at all?), second the radio interface appears pretty bad (taking up the whole screen when open), we still don't have an idea of how big the maps are, there is no mention of VOIP bandwidth use or whether or not you can ignore people who piss you off (or what the heck server requirements are going to be for reasonable voice performance), respawn camping will be harder (if you're not the commander we presume), and finally, and our favorite, what appears to be an EA clone of BF Analyzer. Finally the big news - the BF2 game release appears to be set for June 21st of this year with a demo release shortly afterward. There are claims of a countdown clock ticking somewhere (though PBF seems to have retracted that claim since they first wrote it), and the game will be released in Europe first (probably to see what the French think first bah). More soon you can bet. Recruiting Continues Still looking for a few good
Devils. Hit us up on IRC or email us on the Contact page, thanks!
El Gato Loco (better known as Tawmcat_TDB) made contact recently and sends his love and hopes to see us in BF2. You take care you crazy cat you ;). TWL After Action: TDBvCC2 On 4/12 TDB took on CC2 on Battleaxe Pro. The match took place on their server, but our older hands were late, which was good for our new members as it gave them a chance to get some match and team building experience, but not so hot as far as our score went. Later on two old hands showed up, but due to a miscommunication, only one played. Also, we'd like to take a sec and say thank you to CC2 for waiting as they did for our 5th to make an appearance. So how'd the match go? Round 1, TDB went Axis, and our strat ran into problems. Despite despite making early advances, CC2's superior teamwork showed and put us into the red and kept us there. We were boxed back to our base and unable to break out despite several attempts at it. Round 1 ended 0-87 CC2. Round 2 was better, as we were
able to keep things alive a lot longer and get CC2
under drain (probably due to the better Allied weapons), but it wasn't
enough, and CC2 took the
game 0-39.

Clan Breakups There have been several fairly high level retirements of clans out there including Desolation, Dr., and others. This is perfectly natural and a periodic anyway, although it does seem like more teams than usual. We wanted to take a moment to wish them GG and good luck in the future. 09-04-05 TWL Challenge Update TDBvsCC2 After talking with as many of the members as were available, we went ahead and accepted Tuesday at 9:30pm EST/6:30pm PST for our match. Map will be Battleaxe Pro. 8-04-05 The Sharpest Point Mod Installed For fun, we went ahead and installed
a brand new mod on the server called "The
Sharpest Point". This is formerly known as the "Real Feel"
mod. Info as follows:
6 fresh maps, no vehicles planned till the third release, however there are fixed MG's and AT guns (and a stray AA). Looking For A Few Good Devils TDB is looking for tankers and pilots of the appropriate skill levels. Tryout required. Hit us up on the contact page if you're interested, thanks! TWL Challenge Issued After nearly 10 days of a whole
lot of nothing, we decided to take matters into our own hands and challenge
up the ladder a bit (guess that 4-0 record scared 'em all away?). Given
we had 2 choices to choose from, we picked the higher ranked one. TDB
will be taking on Collective
Conspiracy 2 on either Sunday or Tuesday. Let us know how those
days are for you, map and other info is TBA.
Ok, TWL
has confirmed we're using BFPro
.71, and that ONLY THE STANDARD MAPS are in BFPro
mode. Apparently there are no BFPro
map files for the customs we play. Good to know they care enough to
push this thing on us but not enough to support our maps...
Ironically it's either feast or famine in TDB and I'm happy to say it's feast time. Members need to get in touch with us re: current voice IP's. Thanks, and thanks to all the hosts! "Mmmm mmm gooood".
From the desk of Tex_TDB:
05-04-05 BBO Update: Final TDB's server has been updated
with BBO: Final,
which all members with server admin need to get here.
After producing the premiere remote server control software suite, Kevin
"Kevlar" Lockitt has called it a project. As from his page:
Well, hope springs eternal Kevlar
;). At any rate, thank you for your top quality, free administration
software that has made the life of BF:42 and BF:V server admins a lot
easier (except at update time but we blame Escaped
Turkey for that 8P).
For those of you living in a hole somewhere BF:2 has an official site up that I probably mentioned previously but can be found here. Why mention it now? Well...they produced a high quality land warfare video that is worth checking out. Get that here or if you feel like waiting in line for the really high quality version, you can do that here. PlanetBattlefield.com
has also linked the latest BF2 Newsletter which you can get here.
As far as we know, BF:2 is still on track for a release in June, however
some stores have shown October release dates so stay tuned...
Stunning isn't it? Since we're
looking at 8vs8 play again, we need a few more bod...we mean members
to throw under the treads of enemy tanks and catch bombs. If you think
you have what it takes to kick ass and take names, check our contact
page for info today! Tankers and Pilots preferred.
Digital
Resuscitation has retired from BF:42 play. Yep, let's all mourn
for about...3 seconds 8P. According to the announcement at TWL:
In all seriousness, we had a
lot of fun matches with this former champion team, and they were always
very cool to deal with. After all, who could forget when our air pinned
them on Kursk, or some of the stylish plane pile ups both teams had
on Kharkov and Kursk...GG Dr. no rematch this game we guess :). Why
the heck did we keep pulling you on our worst maps? Bah.
Update preparations continue
and we're still evaluating and testing new portal designs that will
be more flexible and useful than ever. Sit tight. In other news, we
archived March's news which you can find below.
Our Teamspeak hosting has changed again, members need to get with us for the most current IP's. In other news, Teamspeak has a small problem members need to be aware of. The official download page at Teamspeak's page contains an apparently flawed official client that is causing crashing problems, especially with BF:42. Members need to get with us about alternate working download locations. 03-04-05 TWL Match After Action: TDBvsYWG On 30 March '05 TDB took on Young Warrior's Guild on Caen. This was actually our first Caen match since a scrim nearly a year ago, and served to remind us about some of the negatives of the map. TDB went Axis first, and the game got started with little issues, which we'd like to add was a nice change for a TWL 5on5 Infantry Ladder Match. From the start of this round, YWG showed good preparation and thought into where and how to use their weapons and where to position themselves, using a lot of teamwork, etc. TDB was hard pressed to keep it alive for a few minutes and the drain did it's work, ending round 1 165-57 YWG. Round 2 we did some subbing, and the game got started. Between the subs and the change of weapons, TDB dug itself out of the hole and came out on top strongly, round 2 210-0 TDB and leaving YWG apparently scratching their heads. This kicked it into round 3 and gave us side choice. Round 3 we elected to go Allies.
We had watched the teamwork aspect of YWG's
game deteriorate since the previous round, and as a result we pushed
them rapidly back to their base and more or less kept them there all
round, ending round 3 in our favor, 217-0 TDB.
Unfortunately YWG didn't expect to lose by such a margin and started talking some trash after the game (calling us hackers, etc.), and wanting to rematch with VexSecure, which we had to explain was no longer required by TWL for reasons we all already know, and useless anyway as any cheaters "caught" would be known by only the mute VexSecure team. Well as we write this, they raised the question at TWL again, and were told the same thing. Good game and here's the screens:
Member Update A few notes for our membership. When you can't make it, let us know, or you put the team out and weaken us at match time. Remember the basic 3 rules of membership, or we'll have you reciting them at every practice until you can :). Second, by a vote, Wednesday night has been added as a practice day. Woo practice! Third, because of the recent 5vs5 Infantry Ladder Vote everyone needs BFPro .71, which you can get here because BFPro no longer maintains a local mirror. Have that by Sunday if you don't already. Fourthly, I'm sorry to announce that our own Trigger has decided to move on, citing lack of interest in the game. We wish him the best. Finally we're looking at going back into 8vs8 play again, so if you want part of that, you need to make the practices, and adding the above day will help. TWL Update Unfortunately, and due in part to the 1/3 of teams who passed on the chance to have a say in this, BFPro has been adopted on yet another ladder, this time ours. Members need to get it and be ready to start using it on Sunday, thanks. On another note, our thanks to the teams who did take the time to try to keep this unnecessary mod off the 5on5 Infantry Ladder, especially considering that there is now THREE different versions of it in use (.71, .81, and .91 better known as the Infantry Mod). In another interesting development, TDB is wondering whether or not all the teams who lobbied soooo hard for BFPro bothered to notice that only 3 maps on the 5on5 Infantry Ladder are supported? Of course we could also ask why TWL decided to adopt a mod not ready for prime time, and why the mod authors supported this move without bothering to check to see what maps we were playing, but we wouldn't do that would we heh? 2 Years In Iraq Anniversary With so much news over the last couple of weeks, the 2nd anniversary of the Iraqi campaign came and went quietly for the most part. We just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to the troops for their hard work and sacrifice, and our hopes and prayers for their safe return when it happens. Those of you interested in reading more about the men and women fighting the Global War On Terror should check out Strategy Page, and keep in mind the cost here. Archives Coming Soon...
